What really goes on in a hospital? 250,000 deaths due to medical errors. Charley, a registered nurse, spills hospital tea through catchy tunes and wild tales from the bedside. She is great at standing up for her patients, but will she ever figure out how to stand up for herself? Now Charley is wanting to retire, but she can’t. Life did not go according to plan. If she had it to do all over again would she be a nurse? Not wanting to be a nurse in the first place, she longed to be an entertainer. Her story of her yearning to perform, has moments of personal victory, but she always remains in financial survival mode. Charley always believed that nursing sucks, but in the end she discovers that yes, nursing sucks, but it does not have to. Unfortunately “about one-fifth of registered nurses nationally are projected to leave the healthcare workforce by 2027”, per NCSBN (National Council of State Boards of Nursing). This is what every nurse, future nurse and prospective patient (that means everyone) needs to know!
Produced, written & performed by Charley Karlotta. Directed & developed by Jessica Lynn Johnson. Andy Gladbach music arranger and keyboard player.
“Charley offers one of the most authentic life journeys I’ve ever seen “portrayed in solo theater.”
“A FUNNY, POIGNANT SHOW AND CHARLEY KARLOTTA IS WONDERFUL” AND “I WAS SHOCKED AT HOW DIFFICULT A JOB (NURSING) IS, IT’S LIKE EVERY DAY IS “THE HUNGER
GAMES” BUT WITH NONE OF THE ACCOLADES AND MORE MONSTERS.”
“It’s hilarious and very entertaining and she is accompanied by a rather adorable chap on a piano. It works beautifully!”
About Charley
Charley has worked as a registered nurse in a variety of settings. She moved to LA from Wisconsin in 2010 to give her two children the opportunity to get into the entertainment business. After several years, Charley started doing some acting and graduated from the year-long improv program at iO West Theater. She also is a stand-up comedian. As a nurse Charley has always been fascinated by the mind-body connection having witnessed many unexplained occurrences in her career. Science is just now starting to verify this phenomenon. The power of one's thoughts, the power of prayer and how they can transform one's life is an ongoing process and Charley is happy to be transforming into a better version of herself.
“It’s quite eye opening in fact and, when a good friend of mine expressed an interest in nursing the other day, I gasped and wished I could take her to this show! Charley has created a show full of laughter, poignancy and her own sweet character, wistfully imagining a better life, an easier job and more comfortable shoes.”
